What to do and what not to do in 2017

What I want to do this year:
- Buy exotic plants and plant them in unique pots - create zen gardens and bamboo gardens (basically an upgrade from the fairy gardens that I was so fascinated with a couple of years back). Specially need to get my hands on some monstera/ swiss cheese plant this year!
- Appreciate art. This interest kind of started in 2016 when I started buying small miniature pieces of original paintings - but hope I can learn more about art and visit more art museums.
- Read poetry.
- Limit eating carbs and fatty foods for dinner - eat more of the rainbow.
- Complete a work-related professional certification. Read more professional journals.
- Watch some TV soaps that are totally brainless and that are not the serious mysteries/ political drama type Netflix/showtime series. Sometimes its the best way to relax after a hectic day at work!
- Drink more tea/green tea.

What I don't want to do this year:
- Continue the fairy garden - I think I had it for 2-3 years now, and since I have not been doing a good job lately of the constant upkeep, I want to decommission the project until sometime in the future.
- I don't want to visit any more antique malls for spending time on weekends. This was a huge craze in 2015-2016; finding treasure and bringing small (but beautiful) junk home. I think I have collected enough unique pieces now to take a break from this for a while.
- Have a sweet tooth and take 3 pm vending machines breaks at work.
- Sleep for 10+ hours. Sleep in the free time and sleep late on weekends and sleep longer on weekdays.

Now lets see what I actually do this year! ;-)

2016 - Summarized in pics and words!

Its time to look back and summarize the year! I think 2016 made a Grand entry and we were crazy busy the first half of the year, 3rd quarter was busy, and things slowed down finally in the 4th quarter. But each month was event driven, and it felt like we were constantly running from one thing to another. So lets look at this by each month...

January - We just moved into the new house 3 days before the new year. Work was insanely busy at office and the house was full of boxes! We had to quickly unpack the boxes, setup the house with the essentials (cable, security), mount the TVs, order the blinds, setup the yard, attend my doctor appointments, get the house cleaned, see all the shopping that mom did for the wedding preparations,
and on and on...I remember each day had a million to-do tasks!  Then we were all excited to welcome aai and baba towards the end of Jan, aai took over the cooking and arranging and organizing stuff around the house. We adored and enjoyed all the hand-picked unique gifts from India and maybe things calmed down for a few days.

February - We had to get ready for the biggest event of the year - brother's wedding preparations galore! Shopping, shopping, more shopping, planning, song selections, dance practices (atleast we tried to do it), endless phone calls and messaging about random wedding fun and planning, pictures, packing....shopping - all the chaos! ALL THE FUN! Oh and in between all that, we also had a small house warming party with close relatives and my aunt visited me 😃. And then packing our bags to Cancun and the last week of Feb came too fast and ended too fast! All we had remaining is memories, stories that we still laugh about, and the pictures! Oh and we of course officially added a new member to the family, #AK.

March - After we were done reminiscing the non-stop pictures, messages, phone calls with everyone with the fun we had at the wedding, it was time to actually setup the new house. Earlier was just the bare minimum setting up, but now with the help of aai - we setup the wall decorations. The living room photo frames, the entry wall with all the collectibles and souvenirs, the paintings in the bedroom. Aai re-arranged the books, DVDs, styled our shelves and a long list of the small stuff that turns a house into a home. And we also spent some down time enjoying all of aai's cooking, exploring new places to eat with aai-baba and watching cricket matches!

April - After aai-baba's trip ended, T and I resumed our long walks, explored the new neighborhood, enjoyed spring weather, I potted some colorful spring plants, we bought pots and furniture for the rooftop, we met our new neighbors, and enjoyed the downtime and finally settling into the new place. And then we booked our Summer trip to Europe!

May and June - Work was busy and tense, but I was in the vacation planning mode and then we took off for a 12 day trip around Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Germany! Meeting Meg on the trip was icing on the cake. Of course, time flew-by the two months. It was pre-trip planning and post-trip excitement. And post-trip job search.

July - I was serious about the job search, resume updates, interviews.

August - I re-potted my 4 year old Fiddle leaf fig tree. This is an important event to be marked in my calendar! And then apart from calendar marked with anniversaries and birthdays this month, we also flew to Seattle, drove upto Vancouver and Whistler and did a real short and hectic 5 day trip! We loved the places we visited - there was so much to see and so little time! Mom and dad had to go to India unexpectedly and visit grandmom who was keeping unwell.

September - This was tough month and it was very sad to lose my grandmom. It was hard to see dad go through a rougher patch, but time will slowly heal the wounds.

October - I resigned at my old job after 6 years of a huge learning experience and enjoyed 10 days of staying at home doing nothing. Those 10 days were super busy though - I hardly got time for the "nothing" that I had planned to do. T and I also did a juice cleanse, and that kick-started healthy eating habits and inspired T to cook and bake! And oh, our cousins and extended family moved out to another city - we miss them.

November - New job, new hopes.

December - Uneventful month, finally! This was just an ordinary month spent meeting lots of old and new friends, trying new recipes, cooking baking and eating, long walks, reading, enjoying summer weather in winter, updating long overdue blog posts and so on.... ;)
Oh and this has also been the year with Instagram being in constant discussion - T joined, L joined, mom joined, cousin U joined and we talk about it all the #time.

Adios 2015!

2015 has been a roller-coaster ride and such a mixed bag of emotions!

Here are the things I did not like in 2015:
- T's grand mom passed away and left us yearning for her smile and kisses. Nothing compares to the love of a grand mom!
- We planned something and destiny had other things planned for us... don't we all hate it when things don't go as planned.
- Year has been a crazy ride since August... hopefully things will slow down a bit in the next year.
- I also hardly blogged this year, hardly ran, hardly read, hardly paid attention to my garden - this hasn't been an year for the hobbies or for any relaxation. I feel mentally drained this year. Sigh.
- My favorite garden shop announced that they are closing... all good things come to an end!

Well, here are all the amazing things that happened in 2015:
- Little brother found his better half - there has been a lot of celebration and much more to come!!!
- We travelled to Sedona and Oregon - such awesome vacations! And I did my first solo vacation to Banff - I love the mountains and I actually loved the solo time too - though I have to go back there with T one day.
- Aai finished re-modelling the home and it looks so awesome - looks straight out of a magazine! Can't wait to visit.
- It has been a big year for A&L - they moved to a fancy apartment, took some amazing vacations and did a great job of sending us really cool pics, bought a home, ran a half marathon together, L started blogging... they sent us good vibes constantly!
- We moved to a new place over Christmas break to end the year on a high note.
- Megs decided to move back to the US - I am so excited that soon she will just be a hop, skip and a flight away!
- Two of my favorite bloggers (Justina Blakeney and Emily Henderson) published their books and T bought them for me the week they released them - they are my two favorite coffee table books.

I think 2016 is going to be the most amazing year ever! So much to look forward to - Let the party begin!!!!

The year gone by...

2014 has been an ordinary year compared to the other years in the past. There were a lot of memories made, but there were no major events like in the years past (when we had home purchases, marriages to attend in family, aai-baba's visit, big travels etc.) and because the year was so mundane, I think this year went by a little slow. However, there are always memories being made and looking back, here are some of my favorite memories of 2014:

1. T&I kicked off the year on a right note by running the half-marathon together in January. I probably ignored running for the entire year after that, but I am getting back into the groove now.

2. T's roomie and my roomie from college visited us - nothing like meeting old friends and talking about the wild stories from the past!

3. We vacationed on beaches (Puerto Rico) and among the mountains (Colorado). Two places struck off the list.

4. T's sister and my brother setup their abodes in new cities. Exploring new pastures :-)

5. My dream and plans of having a fairy garden were turned to reality and I think the garden did very well  - I even changed the decor with seasons! Hopefully, I can expand it further next year.

6. And there are always some bad memories too. It was such a nightmare when T got bit by a dog. Somehow, dogs and I never get along. But now that it is all over, we laugh about it and have an interesting story to tell when we meet peeps!

7. Dad turned 60!

8. T started a new hobby of playing racquet ball and he is ever-ready for a game - Good vibes!

9. I invested and planted a bunch of bulbs in the yard - hopefully, I will get some good returns in the future. I think that's a major milestone for my small yard.

10. And to end the year on a high note, I bagged a new role at work! Really excited to start the new job in 2015!

So adios 2014, and see you all in 2015 with a clean new slate and a few good vibes! :D

Usually I love making New Year resolutions and have a ton of them. But this year, I don't have any in particular.... except to enjoy every moment of the year and to not worry about the future.

So, enjoy and live well!
